Westside Gunn, The Curator
Earlier this spring, I shared another Omen, “Be Life Westside Gunn,” and I’ve continued to go down the Westside Gunn rabbit hole, listening to at least one track a day to remind me to be like him 😀 (thanks again to my pal Mattherw Zeigler.)
I love how Westside Gunn doesn’t see his Self as a rapper but as a curator.
Like many other people I look to for inspiration, Westside Gunn has his hands in multiple ventures—fashion, a wrestling business, art, a record label, and of course, his rap career. Oh, and don’t forget his family.
I’m so glad that I gave Westside Gunn another listen. When I was first introduced to Griselda, he was my least favorite of the group, and I struggled to appreciate his delivery.
But now, I’m a Westside Gunn fan and even more so after this interview.
I never really thought about it before, but being a curator is something I’ve always been—my first consistent content was Weekly Muxtape on All About Your Benjamins—it was all curation. Now I look at the Omens, and even many of my Daily Notes, it’s a curation of ideas, concepts, and content.
Enjoy learning more about Westide Gunn and I’ll be surprised if you don’t end up inspired to lean more into your authentic life.
Keep pursuing,
JC
