Life A Simulation?
I have a good friend who has always reminded me that there is a lot of freedom in maintaining my professional independence. There are ideas, concepts, and content I can share because I don’t have to worry about bosses, boards, or corporate brands—I can share anything I find interesting, even if it’s a little “out there.”
This podcast I’m about to share is one of those things I probably wouldn’t share if I weren’t independent.
Thanks to my friends in The Leading Edge community, I was introduced to the podcast Back From The Borderline, specifically the episode titled, “Why I Hope We’re Living In A Simulation.”
I’ve heard people refer to our lives as a part of a simulation or referencing that we live in a Matrix, but I honestly could never wrap my head around how that could actually be. As I’ve gone on my spiritual journey the last few years, I’ve found my Self open to exploring different belief systems, ideas, and possibilities—while I’m not sure if I actually think we live in some simulation, I thought this episode was fascinating.
In addition to the thought-provoking presentation of how life could be a simulation, I found quite a few things mentioned that align with my beliefs around the authentic life, regardless of whether it is real or a simulation:
How you present yourself in the world and treat others is a significant influence on your experience.
We are on a search to find how we can serve others.
We possess unique gifts and talents that enable us to serve others.
Collaboration creates a more meaningful experience and is more likely to accomplish more.
There isn’t one set of beliefs or rituals that is “right”—you choose what works for you.
We have more control over our lives than we realize.
I share this episode with you and encourage you to listen to it with an open mind. I think it’s natural to explore new and different ideas as you get to know your authentic Self—how else will you know if what you believe is actually true to you, or just what you’ve been told to think?
I also share this in hopes that it might help someone realize they are not living the life they want to live—in the terminology of a video game simulation, they are living as an NPC. The beauty is realizing this, whether in a simulation or not, is that you can change it
I also couldn’t help but think of the movie Free Guy after listening to this episode, so I ended up watching that movie tonight too.
Ok, here’s the episode that I wouldn’t be sharing if I were not living my authentic life:
