A Perfect Moment

In between putting a book down and picking up my MacBook to write today’s Daily Note, I stopped and looked out at a perfectly blue sky.

This morning is absolutely perfect.

A slight chill.

The warm sun at my back.

Only the sounds of the pool system running, the birds, and some bugs.

And did I mention a perfect, vibrant, blue sky?

This picture doesn’t do the scene I’m currently sitting in justice.

As I sat for a few moments, just soaking it all in and feeling an overwhelming sense of joy, contentment, and appreciation, it dawned on me that there was someone else nearby, sitting and looking at the same scene, but with a totally different perception of what they were looking at and feeling.

I’m overwhelmed with joy, contentment, and appreciation, and someone else is overwhelmed by the opposite.

While the external circumstances in our lives might differ, it is the internal states that create the difference in our experiences of the same moment.

Trust me, there is plenty in my life that I could focus on and allow to change my inner state so that I would have missed the beauty of this morning’s perfect moment.

My wife and I own and operate our own businesses.

We have three boys—two teenagers.

Take your pick of the headlines in the news.

And the list could go on.

There is plenty that I could focus on to join the plentiful company of misery, but I consciously choose to monitor and keep my internal world vibrating at higher frequencies.

And this morning, in addition to the abundant state of life I get to live from, I got to experience a perfect moment.

It was a great reminder, and one that I wanted to share, that your internal world really does create your external world.

Instead of trying to “fix” external things, focus on the internal ones and see how it changes the external.

Keep pursuing,

JC
