2.6.26 The Fall-Off Arrives

To say I was excited to see that I’d be receiving an early birthday present for my 44th birthday is an understatement.

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you know that J. Cole is one of my all-time favorite artists—he currently sits in the number two spot after Kendrick Lamar and before Tupac. But after his upcoming album, The Fall-Off, which he announced yesterday would be released on 2.6.26 (26 is a nod to his hometown Fayetteville—the county number Fayetteville is found in), it might be 1a. Kendrick and 1aa. J. Cole.

We’ve all known The Fall Off is coming.

We’ve all also known that it will be J. Cole’s last album.

Many rappers have claimed to retire, but Jermaine isn’t like most rappers, and I 1,000% believe he will ride off into the New York City sunset on his bike after the last date of the tour for the album.

Maybe we’ll get some features in his retirement. Maybe we won’t.

But we know we’re getting one more album—there’s speculation that a second album, It’s a Boy, might drop before 2.6.26— and it’s an album he has said will be his best album yet. Typically, most artists’ debut album is their best album, not their last. But J. Cole has rapped about his last album being his best, and at the beginning of the video for the first single he shares he’s been working on this album for ten years.

If the first single titled Disc 2, Track 2 (further fueling the two release scenario) is any indication of what is to come, we’re in for a treat—album of the year in February.

Check out the video and notice how he is wrapping about his life in reverse—I haven’t even tried to dive into the symbolism in the video yet, but I’m sure it’s deeper than it appears.

Excited is an understatement.

Watching this video and thinking about what the rollout will look like has my creative juices flowing! This is the kind of stuff that fuels my creativity and sparks crazy ideas about what is possible for my Self.

I can’t wait to share more about the album in the future!

Keep pursuing,

JC
