give flowers

Yesterday, I saw a comment somewhere that people are more polite and thankful to their GPTs than they are to other people. I didn’t fact-check it, but I can see there being some truth to this.

Even if it’s not true, the fact that it is believable is sad.

This morning, I finally listened to a voice note from a college friend I had been sitting on until I could be present and not distracted. He shared with me that he was starting a practice of sending someone a voice note each week to let them know how much he appreciated them and how they’ve impacted his life.

As I listened to what he had to share, I couldn’t help but feel loved. It made me smile and made what’s already going to be a great day (it’s sunny and warm, which is all it takes right now) even better. One of my favorite things he shared was how he had thought about me that day because one of his sons put J. Cole on in the car, and whenever he hears Cole, he thinks of me.

I call that giving out flowers.

We typically hand out flowers and share how much someone means to us at their funeral—we wait to hand out the flowers and love until they can’t actually receive them.

I encourage you to follow my friend’s lead and start handing out more flowers.

Lord knows we can use more of this kind of love in the world.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
