be mindful of the goals you set
A friend of mine texted me today and shared that just a few weeks before he hit a milestone birthday, he reached a goal he set years ago.
“Before I turn X, I want to achieve Y.”
My initial response was excitement for him.
My second response was, "I wonder what would have happened if he had set a bigger goal?”
I don’t think it is a coincidence that he hit the exact goal in the exact timeline that he set.
Now, he didn’t need to reach a bigger goal—he’s exactly where he is supposed to be and in alignment with his Authentic Life; I am so happy and proud of him.
But I can’t help but wonder how many times I’ve achieved goals that could have been even greater had I chose to set a higher number.
I wouldn’t change anything to date—but I’m certainly going to be more thoughtful and intentional about the goals I choose going forward.
When thinking of setting goals, consider choosing ones that seem like a stretch and make you a little uncomfortable because it is highly likely that, like my friend, whatever you choose is where you will end up.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
