the greatness in others

If you’re having trouble finding confidence in your Self, try to finding confidence in others by seeing the greatness in them. By identifying the greatness in others, it might be the shift in perspective that you need to find the greatness in your Self.
I’ve stated many times and still subscribe to the concept that the world is a mirror of your internal state, which would make you think that in order to see the greatness in others, you first need to see the greatness in your Self. I still believe this to be true, but sometimes our internal view can get stuck, and a little help from the outside can set us free.
Mumford’s quote is an example of knowledge I’ve been operating on my entire life, even though it wasn’t until the last few years that I was made aware of it. For example, I’ve always been able to see the potential and greatness in others.
When I first started podcasting back in 2018, I started interviewing my friends in peers who were early in their careers, but I knew would be doing big things later. I even reached out to people I saw on social media who I could tell were special. There is a very popular podcast in my profession that is almost a goal for financial advisors to be on, and I always said it was my goal to have the advisors on my podcast years before they showed up on the other one—I was pretty accurate in my predictions.
I never thought about it until hearing Mumford’s quote on a podcast, but there has to be a connection between the confidence I have in my Self and my ability to see the greatness in others. It might be a “chicken or the egg” situation, but they are highly correlated.
Here’s why I think it starts from within, though.
When you have confidence in your Self–when you know you’re using your unique gifts and talents and you can see your greatness, the fear, jealousy, scarcity, and other lower energy emotions that block your ability to see others’ greatness are no longer present. Your insecurities no longer keep you blind to others’ greatness because you’re not threatened by them. And seeing the greatness in others not only allows you to support and elevate others, but it also allows you to continue to see the greatness in your Self–and find greatness in new areas as you see them in others.
Use your ability to see greatness in others as a barometer of your own, and if you’re struggling to find your confidence, look for it in others to free your inner world and see your own.
