About a month ago, I had an epiphany: a group of people I’d love to serve, am uniquely positioned to serve, and know I can help is athletes. This was a realization that came to me over a series of events, although it’s always been in my face, given that I was a collegiate athlete, my boys are athletes, and I have a lot of connections to the professional athlete world.
Yet, until that epiphany, I never saw my Self serving with athletes.
Before I introduce you to 12:24, as the title of this post suggests, allow me to share why I’m resetting my energy towards working with athletes, along with the second and third generations of successful families in collaboration with family offices.
First, although at first glance athletes and the children in successful families may not have much in common, they actually do. Both find their Selves in unique, once-in-a-lifetime situations with a ton of pressure to get it “right”. In addition to the weight of that pressure, the problems they face—those pressures—are unrelatable for most of the population, which makes the weight even heavier.
Second, the solution to helping both get it right is to begin with their Self. The answers to all of the questions they have begin with their Authentic Self, which is the focus of my AlignedLife work at Santiago. By taking athletes and children of successful families through my life planning and integrated wealth process, I can help them alleviate the weight of getting things right—they will know what is right for them and be able to align their resources appropriately.
In the case of athletes, I believe this alignment and understanding of their Authentic Selves will allow them to operate at a higher level of consciousness and result in better performance in their sport. As I’ve written, and will continue to explore, the practice of mindfulness—being fully present in the moment—is the recipe for finding the “zone”. The more time spent in the zone, the better the athlete will perform.
Simply put, align spirit, mind, and body, and performance in sport will improve.
Finally, both children in successful families and athletes have the opportunity to make a significant impact on their communities and the world in general through their resources and influence on others. That is assuming they know how they are supposed to impact the world, which can be discovered by aligning with their Authentic Self.
Back to my epiphany.
There were multiple signs from the Divine connecting me to athletes:
1.) The reception of my MNDFL Monday talks. Although these were geared towards teens, the feedback and impact of the talks were greater than any other talks or content I created. The feedback was “more of this please.”
2.) A chance meeting at the top of a mountain in Sedona with a Division 1 athlete. Conversations that followed showed me that what I do will help athletes, including the alignment of money with the Authentic Life.
3.) A close friend playing professional basketball in Germany agreed that it was finally time for us to start working with each other.
4.) When I examined my network, I found multiple connections to the professional athlete space.
5.) Finally, multiple new connections to the professional athlete space found their way to me once I decided to open my Self up to athletes.
So what do I do when I am looking to grow professionally?
Lean on content.
Which finally brings me to 12:24.
In short, since you can read more about all of the meanings and symbolism behind the newsletter, 12:24 is a twice-a-month email I am writing for athletes. Through long-form essays, I am taking what I’ve written about in Daily Notes, Omens, and AlignedLife and applying it to athletes in a way that will help them begin to see the power of mindset, mindfulness, and connecting with their Authentic Self. The Creator in me can see 12:24 expanding to a podcast and more, but for now I’m only focusing on the writing and the occasional video to complement and expand upon the writing.
In addition to the essays, I’ve started writing short reports or case studies called Film Room Reports—this was not something I had planned, but I realized some research I had done for my Self would be valuable to readers of 12:24. The Film Room Reports have already expanded to include reviews of podcast conversations—I’m really happy with how the first two have turned out.
I’m introducing you to 12:24 because everything I’m writing about actually pertains to everyone—I’m writing about the human being but through the lens of an athlete’s perspective. You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from the essays.
I also really want to see the 12:24 audience grow, and almost everyone has an athlete in their life that they care about, and if you want to see the athletes in your life reach their potential, I hope you’ll forward them essays or send them to the website.
You can expect a new issue of 12:24 every 12th and 24th of the month and they will hit your inbox at 12:24. The Film Room Reports will not be on a specific schedule, at least for right now. Those will drop whenever they present themselves to me to create.
I’d love your feedback on the essays, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know what you think!
You can see everything on 12:24 and subscribe here.
Keep pursuing,
