What Is MNDFL?
MNDFL is mindful abbreviated without the vowels, and I started using it with my Mindful Monday series of conversations.
Speaking of Mindful Mondays…they were such a success, and I've kept thinking about how I can help the guys who attended (and anyone else who watched or listened to the conversations) keep learning and keep this stuff top of mind.
My first thought was to start an email newsletter where I could share podcasts, articles, videos, and books I come across that I think would be helpful. Then I remembered 13- 18-year-olds don’t subscribe to email newsletters and probably wouldn’t use the Substack app. A free newsletter was such an easy and obvious option. But it would be a waste of time to set it up if the intended audience would never receive it, and the goal isn’t to find more content to create just to create—I already have plenty of that.
So I landed on adding a new page to the website where I could basically create another blog so I can share links via social media whenever I find something worth saving. I got the idea when my wife said I should have a link the boys could share with their friends—a link to what was the question, and a post on my website was the answer. If/when readers begin to use email more frequently, I can set up a simple RSS feed to push new posts to them or move to a newsletter platform.
I’ve tried to minimize the navigation bar on this website and don’t really want to keep adding “things” to it, but the feedback from Mindful Mondays from the kids who have attended, their parents, and others observing from afar have told me this is something important that I’m supposed to be doing, even if it doesn’t have a business angle to it—not everything has to be about making money.
I’m excited to have a place to share relevant content to help nurture the curiosity I’ve seen in just a few conversations.
First order of business is to make sure the first three conversations are in this section of my website and not just in the Omens.
Keep pursuing,
JC
