the outside world is a mirror of your internal world

“You will never find love outside of you. But you will sure find a mirror of what’s inside of you.”

- David Dayan Fisher

You might think what I initially did when I read this quote: of course, I can find love outside of me. Ang, Roman, Leo, Silas, my parents, my friends, etc., all love me. There is certainly love for me outside of my Self.

But, as I reread it, I saw it through the lens of Fisher: the love I receive from others is a mirror of the love I have for my Self. I cannot receive love if I don’t love my Self.

I definitely believe that the world becomes a mirror of our internal state, but I do have a little trouble fully buying into Fisher’s quote. The example that challenges this quote for me would be parents who have a troubled child who does not love his Self; most certainly, the parents love their child, with their troubles and flaws, so there is love outside of the child, but he may not be able to receive it because he does not first love his Self.

I guess the question then becomes, at what point does love exist–When it is emitted or received?

Because love exists on the outside, as the parents do love their child (they emit), but to that child, he cannot see the love outside because the reflection he gets in his mirror is his own lack of love for his Self (he doesn’t receive).

Maybe I’m overthinking this one here.

The main takeaway is that your internal state creates a mirror that the external world reflects back to you.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
