succeeding at who you are

On the final leg of my trip home, I decided I’d watch one of the free movies Southwest offers and settled on Avengers: Endgame—fun fact: once Roman was old enough, we started watching Marvel movies, and I absolutely love them.
When I heard Frigga say this quote to Thor, I sat up a little taller in my seat—she had my attention. I immediately grabbed my phone, opened my Notes app, backed up the movie, and replayed it so I knew I got the quote right.
Millions of people have watched Avengers: Endgame, and sadly, if I had to guess, most people heard that line and didn’t think twice about it.
I love this quote because I see the Authentic Life hidden in it.
Of course, you will fail trying to be who others want you to be—who you are supposed to be. This is why so many people feel stuck, frustrated, discontent, and unhappy. They were sent to chase a version of their Self they could never become because it’s not who they are.
Here’s how I break down Frigga’s quote:
“Supposed to be” = determined by others.
“Who they are” = Authentic Life.
It’s not much of a spoiler at this point, but after being told this by his mother, Thor turns his life around and gets back to being the hero he was. Thor’s power could only return when he returned to his Self.
You may not have the power of the god of thunder, but you have your own superpowers, which you can only realize when you allow your Self to be who you are.
