getting a chance to read the label

Yesterday, some pretty big news in my profession grabbed everyone’s attention—the what isn’t important.

I observed something interesting.

The news stirred up a lot of emotions, inspired a ton of posts, and, naturally, responses. What I observed was that the reactions and responses seemed less about the news itself and more about the individual poster's internal state.

What looked like excitement or disappointment about the news felt, to me, to be more about the individual’s internal world. And I don’t say that from a place of judgment because the comments showed internal worlds of joy and abundance AND frustration and scarcity.

The reality is the news was neutral—neither good nor bad. It was just news. Plus, it was, and still is, far too early to know how it plays out.

But still, how this surprise neutral news was received depended on what the individual’s world looked like in that moment.

Yesterday’s news was more than news; it was a mirror. And it offered an opportunity to step outside their Self and see what their internal world looks like—all they had to do was review their posts and comments.

It can be hard at times to know the state of your internal world. A friend of mine introduced me to a saying that I had never heard, but seem to hear more now: “You can’t read the label from inside the bottle.”

Well, days like yesterday give us a unique opportunity to step outside and read the label from the outside.

What we do with these opportunities will determine the future state of our internal world.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
