The Many Personas Of You

As the main character in your life story, you assume various personas.

In my story, I am:

  • A husband

  • A father

  • A son

  • A brother

  • A friend

  • A mentor

  • A financial advisor

  • An entrepreneur

  • A creator

  • A speaker

  • A coach

This list is hardly complete and I’m sure you have a list of personas just like mine you find yourself taking on each day.

Filling the role of a different persona depending on the moment you are in does not mean you are pretending to be someone you are not—although it could. If you’ve found alignment with your spirit, mind, and body, the personas you embody should almost be interchangeable–meaning whether I am acting as a father or a financial advisor someone observing me should only know which persona I am by the setting of the experience.

If I’m the father, I am in a setting with the boys. If I’m the financial advisor, I am in a setting with clients. If you were able to remove the details of the setting, my values, how I speak, my energy, my confidence, and how I treat those around me should be consistent. I say “should” because if I’m living my authentic life WHO I am, my authentic Self, doesn’t change, but that isn’t always the case.

Lately, I’ve been trying to observe, or at least reflect, on WHO I am in these personas to become better at maintaining my authentic SELF across my personas.

  • Am I acting as the same SELF in each persona or am I trying to fit into a character I think others want me to be?

  • Am I confident in my Self or has imposter syndrome muted my confidence?

  • Am I exhibiting my authentic Self or keeping him hidden for fear of not being accepted?

I’m not sure we can ever become perfectly authentic across all personas. But, we can become more consistent and with consistency, we can get closer to being our Self across all of our personas.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
