we’ll all be forgotten eventually

“Or is it your reputation that’s bothering you? But look at how soon we’re all forgotten. The abyss of endless time that swallows it all. The emptiness of those applauding hands. The people who praise us; how capricious they are, how arbitrary. And the tiny region it takes place. The whole earth a point in space – and most of it uninhabited.”

-Marcus Aurelius

It’s humbling to think about how quickly we will be forgotten when we are no longer here; hopefully, the memories of us will last a couple of generations–maybe a little longer for those who have documented their thoughts and ideas on blogs, videos, and podcasts, but even those have a lifespan that will not be forever.

There are a couple of ways we can interpret this fact.

The first is to be saddened by it.

The second is to be inspired by it – inspired to live the life you want to live, without worrying about trying to please others by being someone you are not.

If the memory of your life is only going to last a couple of generations, you might as well make it for being the authentic version of your Self and not pretending to be someone else.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
