why do we take better care of our physical possessions than we do our physical Selves?
How many of us take better care of our possessions than we do our bodies?
Cars.
Lawns.
Homes.
Jewelry.
Shoes.
Many of us take more pride in the appearance of these material possessions than we do our physical Selves—and not that the appearance of our physical Self guarantees health, but there is something to be said about the time, attention, and resources that are allocated to keeping all of these in good shape and looking their best.
I’ve been guilty numerous times in the past of relaxing on the care of my physical Self–and when I refer to the care of our physical Selves, I’m talking about mental, physical, and emotional…not just the physical.
I shared on a LinkedIn post recently that I’ve been working with my coach Phil for over a year now (mental/emotional) and just hired a nutrition coach (physical) and personal trainer (physical again) to bring the guidance and accountability I need to ensure I don’t get lax on my physical Self again.
In just a short amount of time working with my nutritionist and personal trainer, I’m already noticing improvements in my energy, focus, and a reduction in nagging aches and pains in my body, which makes me annoyed with my Self that I didn’t commit to taking better care of my Self earlier and bringing in people to help me; sure, all of the information that I need to replace Devin and Franqlin is readily available (it always has been), but I know I need that extra help and accountability to make the changes I need to see the changes I desire.
I think continuing to find clarity about who I am, where I’m going, and what I’m supposed to do gave me the nudge to quit settling for “good enough” when it comes to taking care of my physical Self and to get back to “striving for excellence” so I can reduce the chances that my physical Self ever gets in the way of me achieving my goals and making the impact I seek.
You know this, but it’s always good to get a reminder:
You only have one physical body in this life, while you will most likely have multiple cars, houses, and whatever else you prioritize to take the best care of as possible. YOU should be number 1 and everything else follows after; the last thing you want to do is find your authentic life and not be able to fully live it because you’ve neglected the vessel you have to carry it out.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
