adaptability

Routines are great, but sometimes they need to be adjusted.

Make sure you stay adaptable to the adjustments you might need to make within your daily routines

An example of this is writing my Daily Note.

It has become clear to me that shifts I’ve made in my morning routine require me to adjust when I write my Daily Note (you’ll notice this is hitting your inbox in the evening instead of the morning). If I want the Daily Note to continue being something that is delivered in the morning, I need to adapt to a new morning routine:

  • I’ve gotten back into my yoga practice, and instead of hitting a 9:30 class, I’ve been going to a 5:30 AM class. The timing of this class fits my day much better and allows me to get my yoga fix in and be home in time to wake Silas up at 6:45 and keep my morning routine with him.

  • Three days a week, I work out with my trainer, Franqlin, at 8:30 after I drop Roman off at his high school at 8:10.

  • My first client meeting opportunity is 11:00 Monday-Thursday, which gives me enough time to get cleaned up and fresh for the day after my workout.

I no longer can consistently write my Daily Note before 12:00 most days—maybe 11:00 if I don’t have a client meeting scheduled, and that doesn’t work for me.

So…

Tonight, for the first time, I will write tomorrow’s Daily Note. I’ll still do a meditation before writing so I can download the message; I’ve yet to plan a Daily Note in advance of preparing to write it each morning with meditation or some reading.

Life forced some changes to my morning routine, and I’m adapting.

I’m actually excited about this because it will also allow me to add something new, or I guess bring something back, each day…the Daily Note podcast on the AlignedLife Podcast. I want to schedule a 12:30 recording of the Daily Note podcast into my daily calendar, where I read the Daily Note and provide additional context for the post. I did this for a few months, and it was really helpful for me in processing my ideas and further exploring what I wrote. Recording and publishing these short episodes doesn’t take very long. If I know the Daily Note has already been published for the day, I won’t find my Self cramming in writing and recording in the middle of the day.

Be on the lookout for the AlignedLife Podcast feed to be active daily soon.

If I weren’t able to adapt to the changes in my morning that were not all my doing, the Daily Note would suffer, and the podcast version may have never returned.

Be sure to stay flexible and open to adapting when necessary.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
