what fate brings
“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”
-Marcus Aurelius
It’s easy to accept and love the things you want and the people you like that come into your life.
But what about the things you don’t want and the people you don’t necessarily like?
That’s the real challenge and opportunity for growth.
I don’t know about you, but when I first read Aurelius’s quote, I automatically thought about how I shouldn’t take for granted the things that I want and the people I like in my life–I went straight to the positive.
But, as I sat with it, I realized that I think he was talking more about accepting everything, including the “bad” that comes into our lives.
It amazes me how timeless the writings of Marcus Aurelius and the Stoics are—and how the great Stoic writings sound similar to the great Christian writings, the great Buddhist writings, the great spiritual writings, and the great philosophical writings.
It’s almost like certain truths can be considered fundamental truths that transcend belief systems and time.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
