capture ideas quickly
“If you have an idea you’re excited about and you don’t bring it to life, it’s not uncommon for the idea to find its voice through another maker. This isn’t because the other artist stole your idea, but because the idea’s time has come.”
- Rick Rubin
This week, an idea hit me while taking a shower.
As a Creator, I have no shortage of ideas that flow to and through me, so having an idea pop into my head in the shower isn’t abnormal. But I immediately felt something different about this week’s idea, which was inspired by back-to-back episodes of Jay Clouse’s Creator Science. I wasn’t thinking about Rubin’s quote, but I knew I wanted to get the idea down on paper before the excitement left me, which would most likely take the idea with it.
I called an audible in my morning routine and skipped yoga. I went to my local coffee shop and started writing down the details of a cohort version of AlignedLife+ in my Creator notebook (I have multiple notebooks, each for a different purpose: Creator, daily to-dos and notes, and internal thoughts). Once the general ideas were in my notebook, it was time to put them into Notion and map out the six-week cohort.
It took just a little over three hours from the birth of the idea to having a six-week cohort planned out and ready to be built so that I could host the first cohort this fall.
I don’t love skipping workouts, but sometimes, when an idea is too good to pass up (and, in this case, aligns perfectly with everything else I’m doing), you’ve got to act fast.
Speaking of acting fast, now that the cohort is planned out, I am taking my time rolling it out. A past version of my Self would have announced the first cohort starting in a month; I used to mistake my internal excitement for creating quickly as a sign to launch quickly too. Now, I understand that quickly capturing the idea locks it in and prevents it from moving on to someone else, allowing me to take my time building out all of the tools, marketing it to the right people, and giving it time to attract people who will benefit from the experience.
Capture quickly.
Build with intention and take your time.
How did I know this cohort idea needed to be addressed quickly?
I felt it.
The excitement I felt when sharing the idea with Ang.
The vision of how it complements other ways I’m helping people live authentic lives.
I could see the cohort on Zoom.
The flow, the questions, the content, and the details poured out of me–I didn’t have to think about them, I just had to write.
I just felt like this was too important not to immediately get to work on—time will tell if I was right, but I have a feeling that I was.
Like many things in the Pursuit of your authentic life, you will feel the right course of action.
*If the idea of a six-week cohort taking you through the LifeDesign+ process intrigues you, reply and let me know. I'll share more information as I get the marketing materials put together--you'll be the first to know about it. Trust your intuition!
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
