play your game
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to travel to Baltimore to lead a conversation with an outstanding group of men about aligning finances with their Authentic Lives.
I was encouraged by many things, but one thing that stood out to me was that most of the men had decided to define success for themselves rather than chase it as others defined it.
Then I listened to a podcast for financial advisors this morning where my friend Khe Hy was a guest. He discussed with the host, another friend of mine, Dasarte Yarnway, how advisors choose the arbitrary goal of $100 million in assets under management but don’t really know why. He questioned whether an advisor would be unhappy at $97million, or what if an advisor was at $100 million but didn’t enjoy the clients they served–would they be happier at $60 million with clients they love and a business they actually want?
Both the experience in Baltimore and listening to the podcast today reminded me to keep the focus of “success” on my definition–the definition that aligns with my Authentic Life. There’s no need to worry about playing someone else’s game when it’s not one you want to play–instead, your focus needs to be on playing your own game.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
