when will we find our purpose?

Yesterday I had multiple conversations with new friends in a community I am part of (shoutout to The Leading Edge), and a common theme came up in a couple of them… purpose.

This morning, I woke up about 15 minutes earlier than my alarm was set for, and I had this flow of consciousness that revisited the conversations and added additional thoughts. I thought about going back to sleep and trying to remember the idea, but then I sat up, grabbed my phone, and opened up my notes app.

Instead of using what I wrote in my notes app as the framework for today’s Note, I thought I would share it exactly as I wrote it because that’s how it came to me this morning–I think you’ll be able to follow the stream of consciousness and take away what I believe is true...

When will we find our “purpose”?
Is it a thing?

I don’t know.

Purpose in the present.

Eventually, it might be a “thing”.

All experiences before are to help you find and be ready to share with the world.

Service is a part of it.

Career doesn’t have to be it—career may be a means to allow you to live your purpose outside of your career.

In the present, your purpose might be to be the best spouse, parent, and friend possible, and to be present in that.

Not surprisingly, most people find “it” later in life when they are more experienced, life stage more aligned, financially stable, and ready to serve.

How to find it?

Listen to your heart.

Listen to intuition.

Trust in both.

Observe how others see you—“more present and happy”.

I do believe we all have a purpose.

I do believe it often is a “thing”.

For most, it won’t be a global impact thing.

It will impact fewer people, but it will still impact, and the trickle-down/up effect of the impact is impossible to know in the present.

My experience

I believe I’ve found mine—the Authentic Life—but I’m still figuring out the “how”. Today I believe it is through living as an example, directly being a guide, planner, and adviser to some (career), and leveraging my creativity to reach people and help them understand what is possible.

About 40 years to find “it”—really exploring and connecting in the last 10 years, but I can look back and see the breadcrumbs.

Today I’m in transition towards my impact and reach growing outside of my family and clients—it’s been family, clients, and then the outside world.

The future will have more time for the outside world, but I don’t know how “big” it, and I’ve surrendered to what it will be.

How?

Align your spirit, mind, body, and money.

Follow your heart.

Find your unique gifts and talents.

Serve others.

Allow evolution.

Purpose, or “it”, will find you and be as big as it’s supposed to be, if you follow the guidance.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
