failing or staying stuck
What’s worse, failing or staying stuck?
If you’re not feeling stuck, today’s Note isn’t for you—but don’t forget it because at some point you’ll feel “stuck.”
If you are feeling stuck, though, think about what you might be giving up by staying.
In a recent episode of The AlignedLife Podcast, my friend Ashby Daniels shared something that has stayed with me. As he consulted with people he trusted while considering whether to exit his business, one of his friends asked if his business might not be the safety net he believed it to be, but rather an anchor.
I don’t think Ashby felt stuck, but I definitely think his business was an anchor of sorts as I’ve watched him with great pride continue to pursue his passion, have success in his new business, and most importantly be an incredible present father and husband–he is continuing to live his authentic life.
There might be times where the status quo is the right answer—it’s probably momentary and situational–despite the feeling of being stuck. However, there will come a time when staying stuck is no longer right, and you need to take on the risk of failing.
Ask anyone who has risked failure to break out of being stuck, and I’m willing to bet very few regret it, even if it didn’t work out as planned.
Even if you do “fail”, there will be new opportunities and possibilities you could not see from the comfort of “stuck”--the failure wasn’t actually a failure but a part of your journey to break free and have a fresh start to pursue what you are supposed to be doing.
In most situations and for most readers of The Daily Notes, I think staying stuck is worse than failing, but you have to make that decision your Self—you at least owe it to your Self to think about it and explore what your answer is.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
