your net worth will never exceed your self-worth
Before I get started, let me clear the air…
This post will not be about whether our net worth defines us, because that would be a short post—it doesn’t. I can discuss how our net worth can help us make a positive impact on the world and leave a lasting legacy, if that is of importance, in another post.
What has been weighing heavily on my heart, though, is the negative self-talk, the scarcity mindset, the lack of confidence, and the hopelessness I see and hear people display when it comes to their finances.
“I don’t come from money.”
“I can’t.”
“That’s not for people like me.”
“I’ll never have enough.”
“I’m not good enough.”
These statements might appear to be about money.
These statements are actually a reflection of how people feel about their Selves.
Believing these statements is a surefire way to ensure that you will never have enough, that you will continue to struggle financially, and that the abundance of money that circulates is for others.
You weren’t taught this in the little financial education you received in school, but the first step to building wealth isn’t budgeting—it’s self-belief.
It’s a belief in your ability to put your Self in the position to earn the income you need and deserve.
It’s a belief in your right to accumulate, grow, and allocate from the abundance of money that exists.
It’s a belief in your capability to be a good steward of money.
It’s a belief that you are just as worthy as the next person to not stress over finances.
Our purpose in life is not to accumulate the highest possible net worth.
As I mentioned, your net worth is not who you are.
But, we do live in a physical world where money is necessary to live—it touches everything, and there is no escaping it.
Some say money doesn’t buy happiness, and in some regards, that is true—more money for a billionaire (or even a millionaire or a hundred thousandaire) probably won’t make them happier. There’s something deeper missing for them.
However, for some, money will certainly relieve stress, make life easier, and bring more happiness. And as I’ve written and talked about before, having more ALIGNED money will certainly bring more happiness.
You don’t have to look far today to find people struggling financially, and while this may sound harsh, many of them don’t believe they can achieve the financial stability they seek. Their circumstances have led them not to see their Self as worthy as they should—their self-worth is preventing them from increasing their net worth.
Your net worth will never exceed your self-worth.
You cannot improve your financial situation if you don’t believe in yourself, see the possibilities in front of you, and have the courage to make the changes you know are necessary to make progress towards financial stability, then financial comfort, and ultimately financial freedom.
Notice I have not mentioned a single dollar amount. The net worth required to achieve each of these levels will be different for everyone and will most likely be less, a lot less, than you think it is.
But the only way to start making progress is to love your Self more, believe in your Self, and see your Self as worthy of the net worth you want to pursue.
Increase your self-worth, increase your net worth.
It starts within YOU.
Keep pursuing,
JC
